Classification of hydrocracking catalysts

May. 24, 2023

Hydrocracking catalysts are of various varieties, which are divided into noble metal catalysts and non-noble metal catalysts according to different metal components. The precious metal catalysts are mainly Pt and Pd; Non-precious metal catalysts are mainly W, Mo, Co and Ni, which can be single component, two component or three component. Most of them are Mo-Ni, W-Ni, Mo-Co and other two component catalysts.

According to the different acid support, amorphous catalyst and crystal catalyst can be divided into two types. The acidic components of the former are amorphous silica-aluminium or modified alumina. The acidic component of the latter is mainly molecular sieve, such as Y molecular sieve, β molecular sieve, ZSM molecular sieve, SAPO series molecular sieve, etc.

According to the different operating pressure, it can be divided into high pressure hydrocracking catalyst, medium pressure hydrocracking catalyst (including medium pressure hydrocracking catalyst, moderate hydrocracking catalyst, medium pressure hydroupgrading catalyst and inferior diesel oil hydrogenation catalyst to improve cetane number.

According to the different process flow, it can be divided into single section catalyst, a section in series cracking catalyst, the second section catalyst in the two-section method and the second section catalyst in the three-section method.

According to the production purpose of different products, can be divided into liquefied gas type catalyst, naphtha type (or light oil type) catalyst, medium oil type catalyst, high medium oil type catalyst and heavy oil type catalyst.

According to the shape of catalyst, hydrocracking catalyst can be divided into solid catalyst and slurry catalyst.
