Development trend of hydrofining catalyst

May. 10, 2023

With the improvement of crude oil poor-quality, the requirement of processing performance is increasingly harsh, so the requirement of catalyst performance is further improved. In order to improve the activity of catalysts, people have made a lot of exploration from the active metal components, additives and carriers, and put forward different active center theories. The analysis shows that only those elements whose geometric and electronic properties meet certain conditions can be used as the active components of hydrogenation catalyst. W, Mo, Co, Ni, Fe, Cr, V and so on all belong to the transition elements with unfilled d electron layer, and they all have body-centered or face-centered cubic lattice, so they are suitable for active components of hydrogenation catalyst. Because bimetal component has better hydrogenation performance and stronger hydrodissociation ability than single metal component, most industrial hydrofining catalysts use bimetal component, there is an optimal ratio range between different active components.

In order to improve the activity, selectivity and stability of catalysts, appropriate amount of B, P, F, Mg, Zr, Ti and other additives are often added in the preparation of catalysts. To adjust the electronic structure, crystal structure or surface properties of the catalyst.

In addition, in order to improve the stability and mechanical strength of the catalyst and reduce the fluid resistance in the reaction bed, the carrier can be made into small particle size shaped ball or shaped strip, improve the packing density and conducive to diffusion, and reduce the pressure drop.
