Differences in preparation methods have a great influence on the dispersion of the active components. Hayashi H et al. reported that Ni/Al₂O₃ catalysts prepared from water-oil emulsions maintained high activity for a long time under low H₂O/CH₄ conditions, with only a trace amount of carbon deposits after 40 h of reaction (weight gain of the catalysts < 0.3%). In contrast, the similar catalyst prepared by the impregnation method was severely deactivated after 15 h of reaction, and the weight gain of the catalyst was > 30% after 20 h of reaction.
