How does the shift section of synthesis ammonia react?

Sep. 02, 2023

After the gas is processed from the desulfurization process, it does not contain toxic gases such as H2S. The main task of the shift section is to exothermically react CO in the semi-water gas with water vapor under the action of shift catalyst to generate CO2 and H2. After two stages of compression, the semi-water gas enters the saturation tower for heating and humidification. After adding steam, it goes through the water separator, pre-corrosion device, and heat exchanger to heat up and then enters the medium transformer furnace to recover heat and cool down, then enters the low transformer furnace for reaction. The final process gas is sent to the third-stage inlet of the compressor as a shift gas after heat recovery and cooling.

PS: The CO (carbon monoxide) in the synthesis gas is converted into CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H2 by steam, and the converted gas is called "shift gas".
