Research of Hydrodesulfurization Catalyst

Jan. 12, 2023

The active components of hydrodesulfurization catalyst are transition metal elements such as Mo, Co, Ni, Pt and Pd and their compounds. These metallic elements all have unfilled d electron orbitals, and have body-centered or face-centered cubic or hexagonal lattices, both in terms of electronic and geometric properties, which can be used as active components.Due to the synergistic effect among these metal elements, almost all hydrotreating catalysts are composed of binary or multi-element active components. Co-Mo, Ni-Mo, Ni-W are the most commonly used metal components of hydrorefining catalyst. The three components are Ni-W-Mo, Co-Ni-Mo, etc. Which metal components are used depends on the nature of raw materials and the main purpose to be achieved.

Most of the preparation process of hydrodesulfurization catalyst is to directly impregnate the metal component on the γ-Al2O3 carrier, then dry and calcine to obtain the oxidation state catalyst . In order to have higher catalytic activity, it is necessary to prevulcanize it into vulcanized state. Because the carrier in the supported catalyst has no activity or very low activity and the proportion of the carrier is very large, resulting in the catalytic activity of the supported catalyst is not very high. It is difficult to meet the production of ultra-low sulfur diesel (sulfur content is less than 50ug/g or 30ug/g, or even 10ug/g), so people have gradually shifted their attention to another class of new catalysts, which on non-supported hydrodesulfurization catalyst or Bulk catalyst.
