What is the ammonia process?

Aug. 11, 2023

Synthetic ammonia, also known as ammonia, molecular formula NH3, refers to the ammonia synthesized directly from nitrogen and hydrogen at high temperatures and pressures and in the presence of ammonia catalysts, nitrogen can be taken from the air or air liquefaction and separation. Hydrogen is usually produced from various fuels containing hydrocarbons, and is also produced from raw materials such as coke, anthracite, and heavy oil in combination with water. In addition to a small amount of ammonia recovered from coke oven gas as a by-product, the vast majority of the world's ammonia is synthetic ammonia. Synthetic ammonia is mainly used as fertilizer, refrigerant and chemical raw materials.

The main raw materials of synthetic ammonia can be divided into solid raw materials, liquid raw materials and gas raw materials. After nearly a century of development, ammonia synthesis technology tends to mature, the formation of a large number of distinctive process, but are composed of three basic parts, raw gas preparation process that is the conversion process, purification process and ammonia synthesis process.
